Patty
Blue Merle Bi girl 14 oz Kim, Hugh, & Squeeze
Redwood's A Mighty Dandee Squeeze British Columbia, Canada |
Updates (Dec 2014)
Patty was a hard one to give up. She tugged at my heart strings from the moment she was born. Sometimes, though, seeing a puppy with their new family creates a sense of peace. Patty was always Kim's dog, and it was hard to deny the connection. She has matured into a Yankee clone, physically and mentally. So much to love in a little package :) Here is what Kim has to say about Squeeze: "I've enjoyed every last minute of this time - some of it has been stressful in the "am I doing enough with this dog/puppy?" kind of way but philosophically I find I sit on the side of enjoying our time together and growing first physically and mentally before we put emphasis on competition. I want her to be a well rounded companion dog who also happens to kick ass on stock and in agility :) She's fast, athletic, fun. Loves the clicker, offers things faster than I can string together what I'm doing - makes intuitive leaps in behaviours which I find really interesting. We've had three stock "lessons" at this point and her instructor has very positive thoughts about how keen she is while remaining connected. My goals for her include WTCh and ATCH. She gets compliments everywhere we go - though whereas Ryder generally gets them for being "happy", Squeeze gets them for being unique and fast. Squeeze is a fantastic trail dog - mostly disinterested in passing people and other dogs - bikes are a whole other ball game though, anything that moves fast has her attention. Her ears are still nuts, I love them anyway, up, down, sideways - they compliment her and are a good indicator of her energy level and intensity. Tail is often "scorpion" - I have no idea how stuff would get stuck in it as she rarely carries it low enough to encounter the ground/trail. She swims like a fish and has all along - luckily she's very sensible about where - strong ocean tides she avoids, mucky water she doesn't' like so mostly it's just our local lakes and rivers which is perfect. I may take her for some swimming at one of our local facilities this winter to see if she likes it and acclimate in case we want to use them for conditioning later on. My favourite trick at this point is Ryder and Squeeze sit beside each other and I ask "Who is Daddy's favourite?" and Squeeze smacks Ryder on the side of the head - this is an ambidextrous trick and she'll gladly whack Ryder from either side." |
Sally
Red Tri girl 13.8 oz Barb & Cider
Redwood's Mighty Hot Cider Oregon |
Updates (Dec 2014)
The puppy that I thought would have the most aussie reserve has turned into such a lovely girl, thanks to her amazing owner Barb. Barb has done such a fantastic job at giving Cider so many experiences, that she has blossomed into a confident and well-rounded young dog! Here is what Barb has to say about her: "Cider is just a blast and I could not have asked for a puppy that more fit my needs and dreams for my next dog. She is extremely bright, full of her own opinions, sassy, sweet, funny and beautiful (in her own wacky ears up kind of way.) She is loving, but only barely tolerates my kissing of her head, which I cannot stop myself from doing. She seems to think she is a cat and curls up on the top of the back rest cushions on the couch. I never expected to see a moderately large dog do that! She also prefers to sleep with her head on a pillow. She loves to learn and loves figuring out what I might be after when I am trying to teach her something new with the clicker. I look forward to playing with her in agility; exposing her to herding (I think she will be great); and maybe even obedience. I have tried and tried to get her to stay close to me on walks in the woods, but once she knows a place, unless I put her on a leash the whole way, she always zig zags back and forth across the path on her own mission. She has great directional sense and I am often totally surprised by the direction she comes from when she returns. She has got all our normal walking places mapped out in her head. She is friendly to everyone (people or dog) that she meets. She likes water, but is not crazy about swimming, though she did quite a bit of it this summer. Cider's bit of reserve and sensitivity have brought about some major dog training revelations for me as I searched for the best way to raise her. This has made a big change in Gitano's life, also, and he is now a much happier and more engaged dog." |
About this crossAfter the fantastic response from the 1st two crosses, we are repeating this litter one final time. Yankee came back from puppies this past year to earn agility championships in both ASCA and USDAA. She is running fantastically and having a blast. Quinn is working hard towards his WTCH, and we are looking forward to seeing his performances at ASCA Nationals in Greeley, CO this year. The puppies are turning heads wherever they go - they are confident, happy, and great working dogs. Blog posts are here.
After this litter, Yankee was spayed to continue her performance career. She moved up into the 18" jump height in USDAA. Due to her limited showing to qualify for 2014 USDAA Nationals, I kept her in the 16" performance division for her tournaments. She had an amazing showing at the USDAA Nationals. See her page to see all of her results! Quinn also had a wonderful year, finishing off his WTCH and continuing to turn heads in his limited agility trialing career. I am thrilled with this cross, and look forward to watching all of these puppies grow up. |
