Peach stayed at Redwood - my perfect red merle girlie I have always wanted. She has turned into a driven little beast, and we love her immensely. Her agility competitions are coming along nicely, and I look forward to showing her in the obedience and rally ring. There are bright things in this girl's future. Follow her progress on her own page here.

Updates (Dec 2014)
Baru was a special boy to begin with, as he was the Niko clone. Such a happy puppy and the first puppy to figure out the Kong feeder that dispensed kibble. The girls would let him knock it out, and than steal the food from him :) We are so proud of Sally and Baru's accomplishments in his short life, but love the most that he gets to experience so much. I'm excited to see where he goes on stock, and can't wait to meet him again as an adult. This is the hardest thing about sending your puppies across the country! Here is what Sally has to say about him: "Baru has an ever-growing fan club here in the Mid-Atlantic area. Everyone loves his attitude, athleticism, work ethic, and looks. I liked Kim's description of Squeeze's "scorpion tail" - that's pretty typical of Baru as well. He loves to work and gets impatient (and vocal) if he has to wait for anything - one of the down sides of shaping I think, is his expectation of instant gratification/feedback. Baru really wants to get things right, is a thinker, and is generally very sensible, except at the end of an agility run when he thinks its ok to bite me in his excitement. Needless to say, I'm teaching him a new default behavior for that :-). Baru has totally spoiled me - in my 20 years of training and competing in agility, I've never had a dog that went from Starters debut to AAD and 1st Masters Std Q in only 5 trials! Because he's trying to be right, he's not a speed demon (yet!) like his older brother Niko but he's posting very respectable times well under SCT and I know he has quite a few gears left to discover. I've had him on sheep a few times and mostly liked what I saw but he has a tendency to pout if I won't let him have his way, like not letting him work in just the direction he's comfortable with. We have a clinic with Kathy Knox in two weeks so it'll be interesting to see what a border collie trainer has to say about him :-)." |

Blue Merle C/W Female (blaze) 14.8 oz Leah, Roy, & Gypsy
Redwood American Rose Oregon |
Updates (Dec 2014)
In Leah's words when asked about Gypsy "Best dog I've ever had." Gypsy had a rough start with a partial rupture to her cruciate cranial ligament around 4-6 months. After months of crate rest and various treatments, she had surgery at 11 months old. The surgery was hugely successful, and after a successful rehab, Leah has a dog again! As this litter hits almost two years old, here are some of Leah's comments about Gypsy: "Well, she is a ‘scamp’ that steals socks, chews paper, and does her share of things that make you roll your eyes, but she is still a wonder. Willing, ready, and smart. then there’s loving, sweet and cuddly to add to that. Of course, I’ve loved a lot of dogs over time, but she is really special. All that she has been through in her short life and sometimes, when we are training, I forget what a short time she has been able to do all these things I’m asking her to do. If she had a better trainer, she would be even farther along than she is now, but we are having fun working together and, to me, that is the most important part. The moments I find to sneak up to our barn for some fun with Gyp have been wonderful. She runs to the gate when I open the back door in the hopes we are going to do something fun. If I open the gate, she runs to the barn and waits for me to unlock the door, then runs in. How can you not like to go train when you have a partner with that much enthusiasm? Do you remember our conversation (ages ago) about Flare not having an “off switch’'? You said that Yankee did. Well, her daughter has one, too. She is just a perfect dog for me and I can’t imagine having any other one than her. I lucked out and I can’t thank you enough for giving her to me. " |
About this cross...
About Yankee & Quinn
Yankee had 6 months off due to the first litter of puppies. She completed her AKC Rally Advanced and Excellent titles during her time off. She came back strongly in agility at the NW USDAA Regionals with some fantastic performances. She also went down to the West Coast USDAA Regionals over Labor Day weekend where her team took 5th place out of 31 teams and she made GP Finals. At the end of September, we went to USDAA Nationals in Colorado. Despite a few bobbles, I was very proud of her runs. Her strengths in agility are the technical courses, and it really showed off in team jumpers. In November, we competed in the finals at ASCA Nationals. She took a 6th place in round 1 of Regular, got the highest number of opening points in gambles out of all dogs (around 130 dogs), and just barely missed making the top 10 overall. In Quinn's limited showing schedule, he earned all of his open titles on stock. Quinn participated at ASCA Nationals and really cleaned up! He earned a 1st place in Open Sheep, a 2nd place in Open Sheep, a 2nd place in Open Ducks, 1st place in Novice Rally (with a perfect score of 200 points), 6 Q's in Novice Agility, and High in Trial Novice Agility! This cross should produce nice working or performance dogs, with solid temperaments, a good off-switch, and great work ethics. Information on Niko, the puppy from the first cross, can be found on my blog. Puppies will be able to be registered in AKC and ASCA, and will be sold on limited (non-breeding) registrations. All colors in bi's and tri's are possible. Tails and front dew claws will be left on all puppies. Questions about tails on aussies? Here's a well-written article on the history and the why's and the now-what's. |
